What is Clubhouse?

We’ve no doubt that you’ll have heard of Clubhouse, as it seems to be all anyone is talking about of recent. But, just to re-cap, Clubhouse is an invitation-only audio-chat social networking app which was launched in 2020 and is favoured by the likes of Elon Musk and Oprah Winfrey.

How does it work?

Unlike Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, Clubhouse is all about connecting people through audio and many have been referring to Clubhouse as a mashup between Spotify and Zoom. Once you’ve logged into the app you’re able to either start your own conversation or eavesdrop into a conversation that has already started where you can contribute to the conversation and raise your hand to ask a question. Conversations aren’t recorded and so aren’t available on-demand, so the whole concept of Clubhouse appears to be playing on the notion of FOMO (fear of missing out). Our thinking is it’s a bit like dropping into a live recording of a podcast!

What are the opportunities for B2B?

Given the soar in popularity of video conferencing software over the last year or so and an increase in remote working we’ve no doubt Clubhouse will present itself to be a huge opportunity for businesses.

Brands are already beginning to sponsor ‘rooms’, and from what we know about Clubhouse so far, there’s certainly an opportunity for users to establish themselves as experts in their field and become well-known for the quality of their advice. Clubhouse also looks to be the perfect platform to share your brand story, connect with customers, get product feedback and generate awareness. As time progresses and we all become more accustomed to the platform and it’s opportunities we’re certain new use cases will come to light!

Clubhouse is currently in its beta phase of testing and admission is by exclusive invite only but with a fresh phase of funding, founders Paul Davison and Rohan Seth, are getting ready to open the app up to the masses and no doubt take the world of social media by storm!
