For those of you that don’t know me, I am a HUGE advocate and supporter of Pride. It’s something I throw myself, into every year, supporting in absolutely any way I can and whilst I strongly believe Pride is so much more than rainbows, glitter and festivals, this doesn’t stop me decorating the office with rainbow flags, wearing glitter at every opportunity and attending as many Pride festivals and celebrations as possible!
I read something on LinkedIn last week that really stopped me in my tracks and I think sums up the importance of pride perfectly. The post said “Pride is important because someone tonight still believes they’re better off dead than being themselves“. This unfortunately is the heart-breaking reality for so many people, and it is this exact reason why pride, and showing allyship, is THE most important thing for me.
I’ve come to the realisation that Pride means something different for everyone. And for me, Pride is all about being authentic and inclusive and it’s about making everyone feel like that have a place so they feel accepted. I’ve been wanting to get Alex, my best friend of more than 15 years, in front of the camera for the last couple of years because quite honestly he is one of the reasons I am so passionate about Pride, not just during Pride month, but every single day.
